We know you have a lot of options about where to buy these days. Online shopping means you’re only a few clicks away from making a purchase. So here's how to make sure you're making the right one!
Being Official in a world of cheap knock-offs
Sea Tech is the official New Zealand retailer of our brands: this means we buy directly from the manufacturers and sell directly to you. Sea Tech has established strong relationships with these companies, in many cases going back decades.
We know these brands and trust them, that's why we sell their products. They know us and trust us, so when we tell them there's a problem, they listen. It might sound like we're a middle man - technically we are - but we're a middle man who works on your behalf, making sure you get the best out of what you purchase.
Sea Tech has built its reputation and business on knowing our stuff, giving you the best, whether that's advice or products, and helping out when you need a hand. Underwater photography can be tricky and expensive, so it's best to buy local and buy official.
When you buy something from us, the price is literally exactly what it says on the tin.
If you buy something from an overseas supplier, that is most definitely not the case. While the product might seem like a great deal on screen, it's important to understand customs and import costs.
In addition to the ticket price on an overseas purchase, whatever the exchange rate is on the day (this can fluctuate wildly - trust us, we know), there are also tariffs, GST and border processing fees. This can easily add upwards of 25% to the ticket price. Items costing over NZ$1000 also incur import entry transaction fees.
In addition to these extra costs, Customs clearance can also cause delays. Sea Tech has been importing for years - we've got this down to a fine art, and we've built relationships with customs that help our items clear quickly.
By buying from Sea Tech, you avoid all the headaches, delays and extra costs. We handle all this stuff for you, so you don't even have to think about it.
Consumer Guarantees Act
When you buy from a New Zealand Company, you're covered by the Fair Trading Act and the Consumer Guarantees Act, whether the purchase is online or in person. That means if there’s a problem with a product you bought from Sea Tech, you can ask for it to be repaired, replaced or for a refund under the Consumer Guarantees Act, and that's exactly what we will do, no pussy-footing around.
Many of our brands offer one or two year warranties from date of purchase. It's our job here at Sea Tech to help honour that and help you out if there are any problems - and that's exactly what we do.
What happens if you bought something from an overseas supplier and there's a problem? Well, that's a bit more tricky. Best case scenario, sorting the problem out could be time consuming and tricky. But in some cases they may not be obliged to help you out at all, and if you purchased the item outside of their official selling region, branded warranties might not even cover your item. This could mean you're stuck with a new, expensive item that doesn't work properly, with no recourse.
If you have a problem with an item purchased from us, Sea Tech will help you. It's that simple.
