Underwater Housing for Canon PowerShot SX620 HS

Product # 6242.62

About this Product

A compact, lightweight underwater housing for Canon PowerShot SX620 HS cameras that provides access to all camera functions up to 200ft (60m). Suitable for scuba, snorkel, surf, pool, and any application in or around the water.

If you're looking for a pocket-sized camera for both underwater and topside travel photography, then the PowerShot SX620 HS may be right for you. Its optically stabilized 25x zoom lens and large 20.2MP BSI-CMOS sensor provide high quality stills. Plus you can shoot video on the same dive with 1080/30p capture.

Function and ergonomics

This housing is designed and built in the USA by experienced divers who are committed to providing top quality and value.

Large, easy-to-reach controls are provided for all camera functions except the Flash pop-up switch. If using an external underwater strobe, simply open the flash prior to installation of the camera in the housing.

A drop-in, front-loading camera mounting system makes set-up and break down a breeze. An ergonomic side-mounted shutter lever is comfortable and reduces fatigue. The camera's full 25-625mm equivalent zoom range is usable in the housing without vignetting.

Zoom and macro close-up

The optional WD-4 Wide Angle Dome # 6430.4 provides a wider angle of view underwater without the edge distortion, heaviness, or difficult attachment typically associated with an external wide angle wet lens. The WD-4 is a 0.75x magnification factor and simply slides on and off of the housing's lens port.

A press-fit Macro Adapter # 9306.78 is available for the attachment of 67mm threaded accessory macro lenses. We recommend a macro lens which is designed for underwater use like those from Epoque, INON, Subsee, Nauticam, and other manufacturers. The adapter should not be used with 67mm threaded wide angle lenses. The wide angle lens would be too far away from the camera's lens to provide an improved image.

Accessory mounting

Two 1/4-20 threaded mounting points are included on the bottom of the housing for the rotation-free attachment of a tray and handle system. Handles provide improved ergonomics underwater and are the foundation for your lighting mounts. Mounting lights on a side arm rather than directly over the camera's lens helps to reduce the appearance of backscatter which looks like snow in your underwater images.

Light is absorbed as it travels through even short distances underwater, making colors appear dull or monochromatic. To preserve the natural colors of your subject, it's important to stay within arm's reach—no more than 3-4 feet (1m) away.

There is a simple rule that brighter is better underwater. A high-quality lighting system can produce magazine quality results with almost any compact camera system.

Color correcting filters

Enhanced color correction and clarity can be achieved by adding a color filter or external light. The lens port of the housing accepts our 3.9" diameter color filters, which are available for both tropical blue water and green water settings. A color filter reduces the amount of light that reaches the camera's sensor, so they are most effective in sunny conditions up to about 45 feet (15m). The absolute maximum effectiveness is 80 feet (24m) in ideal conditions of full sun and visibility of 100+ feet (30+m).

Flash and constant on lights

A flash or constant on light is necessary for close-up, night dives, and deep depths. An external light also brings out more colors in sunny conditions. External lights are typically not used in conjunction with color filters, as the combination will result in tones that are too red or too purple.

The location of the camera's flash in relation to the lens makes it unusable for lighting your subject underwater. However, the camera's flash may be used to trigger an external strobe. Two ports are provided for the connection of up to two fiber optically triggered underwater strobes.

Alternatively, a bright constant-on video light can be used. A constant-on light is not as bright as a strobe flash. Constant-on lights do provide added versatility because they can be used for focus assist and for improved colors when shooting video.

Durability and corrosion free performance

Our ABS-PC blend provides strength and corrosion free performance year after year with minimal maintenance. The specially formulated color deflects the sun to keep your camera running cooler, longer.

Ikelite products are designed, built and tested in the USA. We use locally sourced, top-grade materials. Our housings are built by hand and individually tested for fit and function. Every unit is water pressure tested to 200 feet (60m). We back our products with over 50 years of experience and the best reputation for service within the dive industry.

Compatibility

Differences in lens and control placement prevent cameras other than the Canon PowerShot SX620 HS from being used in this housing. We are not aware of any other camera models which may be used in or adapted to this particular housing.

How long will it take for my order to arrive after I make payment?

That depends on where you live and whether we have an item in stock or not. While we do have many items in stock, we don't carry everything. If you need an item in a hurry, it's a good idea to contact us and find out if your item is in stock.

If we have it in stock, we can usually send it out as soon as we receive payment, or you can pick it up. If an item is not in stock, we'll need to order it from our suppliers, which means it can take 1-2 weeks to arrive at your door (usually closer to a week).

Sometimes delivery can take longer, if our manufacturers are out of stock, for example, but this is unusual - we let customers know as soon as possible if something like this happens.

Update 18/12/2020: There are some production delays at present that may increase wait times on items like housings. We apologise for the inconvenience. If there are any delays with your order, we will communicate this immediately.

How do you ship my orders?

We use New Zealand Post and CourierPost to ship orders. Our default is courier, though you may organise an alternative with us by contacting us directly. CourierPost aims for next day delivery nationwide between major towns and cities in the North Island. South Island delivery can take two days. If you require next-day delivery in South Island, choose the express shipping option for the South Island. If you spend over $250 get your shipping for free!

When you buy something from us, the price is literally exactly what it says on the tin.

If you buy something from an overseas supplier, that is most definitely not the case. While the product might seem like a great deal on screen, it's important to understand customs and import costs.

In addition to the ticket price on an overseas purchase, whatever the exchange rate is on the day (this can fluctuate wildly - trust us, we know), there are also tariffs, GST and border processing fees. This can easily add upwards of 25% to the ticket price. Items costing over NZ$1000 also incur import entry transaction fees.

In addition to these extra costs, Customs clearance can also cause delays. Sea Tech has been importing for years - we've got this down to a fine art, and we've built relationships with customs that help our items clear quickly.

By buying from Sea Tech, you avoid all the headaches, delays and extra costs. We handle all this stuff for you, so you don't even have to think about it.
